Can drinking too much water kill you?!


Question: I heard it can kill you if you drink too much...I'm trying to lose weight, how much water should I drink per day? How often during the day? I'm 17, female, 5'9, currently 85 kilos.

Normal, healthy (both physically and nutritionally) individuals have little to worry about accidentally consuming too much water. Nearly all deaths related to water intoxication in normal individuals have resulted either from water drinking contests, in which individuals attempt to consume more than ten litres over the course of just a few minutes, or long bouts of intensive exercise during which electrolytes are not properly replenished, yet massive amounts of fluid are still consumed. - from Wikipedia.

a woman in australia died last year in a water drinking competition. thyey had to see how much they could consume without going to the toilet. i forget how much she had, but sure enough, she droped dead.

you should be drinking 8-10 glasses daily. or more.

Yes, There was a girl who died not long ago actually she drank more then the daily amount on a competition show, All the water in her body sweat out of her, or came out of her body whatever way that it could and she became unconcious, Stick to 2L a day or things can get nasty..

The reason why they say that drinking too much water can hurt you is only if your kidneys are functioning properly and you are sweating alot and not keeping up with you electrolytes, if they get too diluted your body wont like it and will make you dizzy, or cause vomiting, but everyone should have 8 glasses per day, which is 250ml per glass, equally 2 litres, hope that helps, goodluck!

A miniumum of 5glasses(a litre) a day is recommended, so it depends on how much you consider too much. The body will automatically get rid of excess water through sweating, dysuria(frequency in urinating) more loose stool and so on. Water is good, it keeps you healthy...no calories. with your height, you should be between 70-80kgs. Keep drinking, coz youyr body will control the rest for you. you're on your way to victory. A few days and you'll be there.
