I'm taking Protein shakes and working out, but is there anything I could do !

Question: Hello,
For the last six months I have been trying hard to cut down on some weight and improve my body....I've been going to my gym about three times a week working out almost every part of my body. I have pretty decent experience at the gym and although Muscle growth HAS happened, it's done so rather slowly. It has been a while now, and I would like to know if there is anything I could do to speed up the process of muscle hypertrophy or growth. I read Creatine is good for you, and that it helps you gain muscle, especially on a long term basis. But then again, I am thinking of doing Steroids for a while, not much, just to help me get to the next level. Any ideas? I know steroids aren't the best option sometimes, but for short term use I have researched and found only positive comments. So what can I do? Are protein shakes and working out enough?

Protein shakes only do so much. You have to avoid starches and sugars. If you are really self disciplined you can use the old school diet. Eat all the tuna you can. It has the lowest fat to protein ratio you can get. Lots of leafy green vegetables. If your cutting to far back on your calories this is preventing the muscle growth. The body absorbs natural protein better than supplements. Eat six meals a day. Keep your blood sugar at a constant level. Steroids only work while you take them. The minuet you go off them you lose the gain. Amino acids and the time you take them are crucial. Take them late in the evening they work better during sleep. Chocolate milk immediately after work out gives you a 12g burst of amino acid. I don't like creatine. It causes vital organ problems down the road. Apples, low fat dairy products, slow burning carbs, almonds, baby spinach salads, diet is the key.

Well creatine is good for you but not in the long run.You want to stick with protein shakes instead of creatine.Because creatine may build muscle but really its just water thats why you have to drink so much of it.But ya try working out 4 times a week like 1 day do upper body and the next day lower body. And also try getting up early like 5:30 or 6:00 and stretching really good and then eat a good breakfast. And then go workout and try doing different percentages on your work outs like 60% on bench and 75% on squats etc..This way your not doing the same weight all the time.Hope this works for you..

Creatine and lifting along with a protein rich diet will be more than enough.

don't use steroids untill you have had at least 1.5 years workout experience.

What id recommend is that you focus on a specific set of muscle groups for each of your 3 workout days per week. This way you let's your muscles recover and thus grow faster.

A good routine would be

Day 1: chest shoulders triceps
day 2: legs back
Day 3: rest
Day 4: rest
day 5:biceps forearms abs
Day6: rest
day 7: rest

In actuality, even protein shakes aren't absolutely necessary. They are a fairly pure source of protein - but you can get almost the same measure and bio-availability of protein by eating an 8oz. chicken breast.

The advantage to a protein shake mostly lies in the ability to mix it with a simple carbohydrate (sugar) and consume them together immediately after a hard workout - as the body is highly responsive to insulin after a hard workout that has depleted glyocogen in the blood, the simple sugars will help shuttle the protein into the muscle structures you've just finished working out, leading to growth. A similar result can be had by drinking a glass of grape juice and eating 8oz of lean, pre-cooked chicken or turkey breast, however.

Creatine is a supplement alot of my friends swear by, and it does achieve results for them, making their muscles appear constantly 'pumped' - in that perfect state you achieve after a great workout. However, this lasts only as long as they're taking it. About two weeks after they stop, they lose the extra pumped look. There aren't really any negative side-effects that they've mentioned, except for some stomach aches from time to time - but it doesn't seem to produce a lasting gain.

Finally, anabolic steroids are illegal in many countries - and for good reason. The have a litany of negative results on the body - serious implications such as cardiac arrhythmia, coronery artery disease, etc., and some very embarrasing results like gynecomastia (male breast development) and testicular atrophy (shrinkage).
So unless you're okay with breasts and wrinkled balls, steer clear of anabolic steroids.
