Eat sensibly -- You don't have to starve yourself, but if you subtract 500 calories a day from what you eat for a couple of weeks you will lose weight. Switching to healthier foods alone can be suffiient to achieve your goal. You'll need to do a little research to find out what is healthy but as long as you don't go overbored you should be fine. Just avoid junkfood.

Exercise -- Building lean muscle will increase your metabolism and cardiovascular exercise will burn fat. Again you will need to do some research to find a plan that is right for you and your fitness level.

Reverse crunches -- that muffin top. Alone they wont cause the muffin top to go away but once the muffin top does go you will have toned muscles.

Side crunches -- target those love handles. Same as with the reverse crunches these wont cause the fat to go away, but once it does you will be toned.

Relax -- To much stress cause your body to build up fat and if you stress about losing weight you will only set yourself up for failure. Plan a diet and exercise plan stick with it.

Don't step on the scale -- That scale isn't going to tell you when that muffin top is gone, so don't even worry about it. The scale will only discourage you if you've set unreal expectations about what you can do.

Sleep -- Sleep helps the body repair and if your a exercising and eating healthy you will need sleep to keep your energy up. 8 hours a night is average, but if you need less or more make sure you get it.

Finally -- doing any one of these things alone may be sufficent. But if you do them all together, you should see results rather quickly. Based on your discription I would guess a month or two.

Good luck.

clean up the diet and exercise daily. Thats what it all boils down to.

Cut out junk food, drink plenty of fluids and do excercise generally, but also specific bum/tum type ones, regularly. Dont throw out your favourite old clothes which are a bit tight, use them as an incentive. Instead of lolling in front of the tv, go for a walk, go dancing, do the garden.
I know this cos its what Ive been telling myself for the past year since my ace denim and leather pants wouldnt fasten.

crunches, leg raises. Lots of water, good nights of sleep, low sodium and sugar foods. Avoid saturated fats.

EWW you have a muffin top that's gross! J/K but yea you should work on getting rid of that. Exercise will help but really you just need to STOP EATING SO DAMN MUCH.

Clean up your system
