How do you get rid of excess skin when you lose a lot of weight?!

Question: I started losing weight (and I lose weight pretty quickly), I'm a little worried about what will happen to the stretched out skin.

I dont think the skin is stretched out that badly, only in my stomach. Will it tighten up while I'm losing weight and working out or will I have to do something else to fix it?

The way your skin responds to weight loss has very little to do with genetics. There is a high correlation between your diet, how you treat your skin, and any environmental pollutants(especially cigarette smoke). It will shrink back. Otherwise all the women that have given birth would have lots of extra skin hanging around.
Eat lots of lean protein, plenty of vegetables, take a good quality Omega 3 supplement, vitamin E, a multi-minerals (minerals are tremendously important). If you have a lot of loose skin there are some other steps you can take to tighten it up. Use a good lotion-(petroleum free i.e Kiss My Face) Avoid processed foods and drinks. If you are or have been a big smoker you will have a much more difficult time.

No, it will not tighten. If there is a lot, it is usually removed surgically.

It depends completely on your genetics. Some people have really elastic skin and others don't. It will tighten up somewhat regardless but if you lose a lot of weight (>75 pounds or so) chances are it won't tighten up completely. You can have surgery to remove the excess skin.

grab the skin on top of your head, pull it up until it's tight, and tie a knot in it...be careful when you get to the crazy necktie....(;/)

you shoulda been doing weight training all along, if its too much , then the surgical route is the other option.

You have to go for a minor surgery... I have seen it on a documentary on National Graphic..... A person that have the same problem with you.... He have to go for a surgery to remove the excessive skin....

First off lemme say I think thats GREAT you're losing weight! Keep up the good work and it'll just melt off!

To answer your question: I think it depends on your body...I lost over 75 lbs a few years ago and had no problem whatsoever with my skin tightening up...I lifted weights 4x a week, ate the appropriate diets (I didn't eat too much protein I did look a tad like a crack whore afterwards), cardio every day and had no problem with my skin responding...The reason I say it depends think about women who have babies (this obviously isn't the case but bear with me)...some women after a few weeks doesn't even look like they were pregnant to begin with, while others look like they're pregnant long after they deliver...people's skin is different, people's bodies are different)

With everyone being different, the problem is you really won't know until you loose all your weight what your skin is going to ultimately do...I could suggest making sure you hydrate your skin properly (firming lotions, drinking lots of water, etc) to help your skin as much as possible...Weight training helps the elasticity of your skin, the shape of your muscles and reshape your whole body, Which you're already doing (good job!) Keep up with the good exercise, diet and a lil extra help with hydration and moisterizing...and if that doesn't utimately help, you could always see a dermitologist for other options that aren't surgical (they have A LOT of treatment options designed to help tighten skin that are not surgical) Good luck!!!
