Are skinny/slim people generally more agile or is it just a myth?!

Question: GENERALLY speaking are the tall and skinny type more agile than the very muscular/bodybuilder type? Because this depends alot on factors like health and how much they exercise let's just asume that both of the stereotypes in question are perfectly healthy and fit. So who would it be?

More agile?.. probably because they use less energy moving their bodies around. It's like having a coconut in one hand and a pumpkin in the other it is easier to move your hand with the coconut but once you get the pumpkin moving it's a lot more powerful

I frequent an eating disorder recovery board, and many of the girls state that their flexibility diminished as they lost weight.

I think the notion that skinny people are more agile is a myth. I think it depends on the physical well being of a person. It just so happens that many skinny people are also very physically active and healthy.

The height doesn't necessarily help. The lighter person would have less mass to move and therefor would be more likely to be able to change direction easily, thus... he would be more agile. As you pointed out, this is obviously not necessaily the case for everyone.

It is not a myth!! However it isn't caused by skinnyness per say rather skinny people are on an average more physically active and more likely to eat reflecting this. So statistically they are.

However bodybuilder types are if not on steroids more likely to be waaay more agile than you would imagine.

Skinny in the middle and bodybuilder in the middle types are usually on average the most agile since the effects of this bodytype supports agile activities in the ligaments being more able to tolerate stress of the kind that gives agility and the weight of the body overall not hindering motion either. So in this case you are at the highest ratio of increased body agility to strength.

Tall people generally suck at agility though since they have more calcium and this in general affects with ligaments and potential agility and also their joints are less likely to be perfectly shaped for agility as they are dealing with more weight from the skeleton all the time.

So short and middle muscular is most likely the most agile person.

Agile
Characterized by quickness, lightness, and ease of movement; nimble.

Basically it comes down to this. Whoever can apply the most force per their own total weight in a given unit of time will be more agile.

So, a person that weighs 150 pounds and can apply 50 pounds of force in 1 s would be just as agile as a 300 pounder that could apply 100 pounds of force in one second.

Now, as you get heavier, it gets harder to keep these ratios.
As you can see the more you weight, the stronger you need to be to be "just as agile" and just as strong "equivalently."

So, now it depends on what you mean by equivalent shape?
If it means 10% bodyfat then probably the skinny guy. If it means same strength, then definitely the skinny guy, if it means same strength per total body weight, then they are the same.

Look how agile an NFL running back is, and they are very muscular.
