Chicken does have some iron, but it's not the greatest choice if you're looking to add more iron to your diet. Roasted dark meat only has 1.3 mg per serving. Turkey actually has more (2.6 in 3/4 cup). Lean steak, such as london broil or flank steak has alot more iron. (Organ meat has the most, but even I have a hard time recommending that..LOL). Other great choices are seafood such as shrimp, clams, oysters and sardines.

Other foods rich in iron:
Iron fortified cereals (There's 18 mg in a bowl of Total)
cooked beans and lentils
green leafy vegetables
black-strap molasses
pumpkin seeds
dried fruit such as raisins and apricots
baked potato WITH skin

You could also cook your food using a cast iron skillet. Iron from the skillet is absorbed directly into the food being cooked.

i'm not sure, but i'm anemic and my doctor told me to eat red meats and green vegetables (eg broccoli, spinach)
