Why don't overwieght people just workout?!

Question: Obviously most diets don't work. So why can't they just do sit ups or run in place during commercials are something? You don't have to go to a gym! You can still eat alot if you workout.

I am overweight and I walk two miles every day on my lunch break. It was hard at first, but as I lost a little weight it got easier.

You assume that all overweight people sit around watching TV and pigging out (run in place during commercials, You can still eat alot, etc.), which isn't the case. I am a very active person, and try to eat healthy for the most part. Some people have medical problems (physical, mental) that cause them to be overweight. Others are raised with poor nutrition and exercise habits, which are hard to break out of. Not trying to blame the parents, but it's rarely just one person in a family that is overweight, and nothing makes me sadder than seeing a 90 pound 7 year old. If you want to be unhealthy, that's all well and good, but don't instill that in your kids. Do better by them.

I guess my point is, you are generalizing and making assumptions about overweight people as a whole. You have obviously never had a weight problem, and I hope you never do, but don't lump us all together and assume we all choose to be this way.

cuz they dont have to

thats not true

A lot of them do work out. Just because you work out doesn't mean you can eat anything you want!

I agree, you have to workout AND change your diet in order to lose weight.
I have a friend who is overweight and she complains about it all the time but does nothing to help herself. What a shame!

they don't work out because no one is telling them they have to work out. nothing is making them work out so they just sit around all day.

because they are too lazy! They want to sit around and be all derpressed because they are fat!And then to make themselves feel better, what do they do? They eat more!

Sometimes it's a "Catch-22" situation -- they can't exercise because of their size, but the lack of exercise makes them larger and larger.

My co-worker weighs about 380, and her knees are going out. I suggested working out in a pool - water resistance is supposed to be very good for loosing weight, and it will help her move a lot easier.

because a lot of them are lazy. a lot of them don't care. a lot of them don't think they're overweight. a lot of them seem to think that sitting around and eating and complaining about being fat will actually change something. the only thing that will change is it'll make you even fatter.

Overweight people do not work out because i believe that the majority of them feel no need to. Eating is not a habit but instead it is a lifestyle that is hard to quit. Some people become so obese that they cannot work and they get paid with unemployment and that may lead some to think it is okay to eat because, hell, you get paid for it. If i was over weight then i would do something about it...not sit around and watch tv. Pills you get for fat burning will do you no help if you eat and don't exercise.

When you are overweight, you don't have the energy to just get up and exercise. You need a type of motivation. That is why I think that show 'The Biggest Loser' is a godsend. People like that need to be pushed and told what to do.

Not everyone that is overweight are big eaters or lazy. There are medical conditions and medicines that can cause some people to have weight problems. Such as thyroid disorders and people on medicines such as steroids (for things like asthma). Some have very low metabolisms so they can not eat alot even if they do work out. Losing weight isn't an easy thing. If you've never had a weight problem then you wouldn't understand the struggle. Some people with weight problems have an eating disorder just like people with anorexia that don't eat just opposite. There are emotional eaters, stress eaters. There are a lot of causes and it's not something that is always easily fixed.

Some people have a thyroid disease or its hereditary. True that some of them don't watch what they eat or exercises, but who are you to judge who they are or what they do? I hope that God doesn't judge you so harshly as you judge them.

Some are overweight due to genetics and can't help their situation. Working out is hard with that much "resistance" working against you. Imagine doing a pull up with 2 kids hanging from your legs. That is similar to an obese persons REGULAR total leg weight.

I gained weight oveer a couple of months after I got married. And I have a hard time getting rid of it. Admittedly, I don't work out too much. But on the other hand, I don't eat a lot either. I am not at all lazy, I simply work, study, and spend time with my family. I probably have to lose around 30 pounds to be skinny again.

Too lazy. They would rather just eat junk food and bullsh*t everybody about how hard they are trying.
