Why havent i lost any weight this week?!

Question: I have started cutting down my calories with an aim to lose some weight. This is only the second week ive been doing this so i very much doubt i have hit a plateau already. I have been eating between 1200 and 1400 kcals a day which consists of 50g of cereal, a 200ml glass of orange juice, 5 oatcakes with low fat spread, an apple, and soup for dinner. I exercise twice a week. Last week i lost 3 pounds doing this. This week i have lost none. I havent done anything differently apart from having soup for dinner instead of normal meals. I have done this kind of diet before and lost a stone and a half doing it so i cant think what is wrong. The only thing i can think of is that my period is due. Could this be what is preventing my weight loss or am i just not doing it right i.e eating to little or too much. I weight 198 pounds (14st 2) and am 5ft 7.

I would drop the cerela and the OJ. both have a lot of sugar and are probably spiking your insulin. Replace them with oatmeal and water. Drink more water and eat some more protien!

It is also very possible that you are gaining muscle. The scale lies to you that way but the mirror never does.

it might be that you have lost inchs and put on some muscle so its showing as no weight loss

Yes it could be that your period is due, and your weight can fluctuate by anything up to half a stone, each woman is different. My weight doesnt fluctuate at all, but a friend of mine always puts on weight around that time.

If you are exercising as well, it could be that you've lost fat but gained muscle, so even though you havent lost any "weight" you may have lost fat and inches.

Keep at it, dont be disheartened by one week of staying the same. You'll get there with hard work and determination.

It most definetly is because you are due your period and may be retaining a bit of water.
Don't give up ................... you'll lose it next week. Good luck.

Yeah. you proberly have lost weight. but some people tend to gain weight when their period is due.

Dont change to much because youlost that last week.you wil continue to lose in about a week or so

Good luck

maybe your program is not work with your body. try to diet use fresh fruit.

you maybe retaining water because your period is due...weigh yourself again in 10 days. Make sure your cereal is whole grain. Try a glycemic index diet. Drink lots of water. If you want to lose weight, trainers suggest you exercise 3-5 times a week depending on your age and fitness level, speak to a physician.

Hi. You may have hit on the answer when you said that your period is due. The first couple of weeks the main weight loss is due to water. Therefore, if you are due your period in your second week, any water weight loss may be counterbalanced by water retention. However, our bodies do not always react exactly the same to diets every time we diet. It may just be that you have hit your "plateau" sooner than usual. This very often occurs after the initial loss of water weight (quite frequently in the third or fourth week), but this can vary widely due to so many factors. Your metabolism, your age, the activity you're doing.

Are you drinking lots of water? Because, although this may seem counter productive, drinking a healthy amount of water is a good way to ensure that the body doesn't retain too much fluid.

I hope this helps. I'm not a nutritionist, but have been on various diets over the years and am your height and have dieted from your current weight too. Good luck!

well its not really a problem just try to do different exercies so that your body wont get used to a certain activity and maybe exercise about 3 days a week 1-2 hours each day.

anyway i dont think counting calories is the way to go. just eat less fatty food and more fruits and veggies, but if you're comfortable with it then great =)

Yeah it's def because your periods are due hun. Think your diet is lacking too much in fat tho. If your body goes into starvation mode it will hang on to every ounce. Also make sure you exercise everyday! Good luck and don't give up! Think of the summer when you can show of your lovely new figure!!

Your period being due may be the problem. I am also on a diet. Orange juice is high in calories. Try drinking water. If you do not like it plain add a little no sugar cordial. I lost 4.5 pounds this week. Next week it may be only a pound. Do not despair. Not losing weight is better than gaining weight

When you start a diet/exercise regime you lose weight quite quickly at first because you aren't actually losing fat, you're simply burning up your glucose stores before your body starts to work on the fat cells, keep up the diet and exercise and don't give up, think of things to keep you motivated come up with a lil reward scheme eg. you lose 5lbs and you award yourself with a manicure or whatever you women like, when your body starts burning the fat you won't lose weight as quickly as the glucose stores being burnt up but it is working don't worry, I don't think your period has anything to do with the sudden stop in weightloss.

it could be because of your period, or it could be that the first week you lost water weight. drink plenty of water and keep doing what your doing and you should be fine :)
