Basically, the way it works is that you eat far too little actual food and far too much of their gimmicky crap and your body starts consuming muscle tissue to nourish itself.

Think about it, what toxins did you put in your body that you are supposedly cleansing that wouldn't be passed through your excretory system normally? Even things like the THC in marijuana pass through your body eventually (as evidenced by the fact that the "high" eventually ends).

What is a gimmick diet going to do other than cause you to gain weight in the long run as a result of a slowed metabolism?

Eat only when hungry and not more than three times a day. Include plenty of vegetables and fruits in ur food. Eat slow, chewing each morsel at least 32 times. This activates ur body to send signals that u have enough. No snacks or drinks in between except water.
