Why do I get so sleepy and nervous when I eat?!

Question: No matter what I eat and when I eat.. I get so sleepy and feel iritated. If I eat breakfast I need to lay down and sleep..if i eat even a small amount...even just a cup of yogurt? When I eat a full meal it is no diff. My Dr. says no blood sugar problem.

It's not an abnormality. When your body digests food it focuses the blood flow to your digestive system, primarily the stomach and intestines. This relaxes your body and can often make you feel sleepy, and possibly irritated (from lethargy). However, it's NOT healthy to respond to those symptoms by sleeping. Sleeping after a meal causes indigestion and sever bloating (I'm sure you've felt the effects). It helps to take a walk after eating. Talk to a friend on the phone while walking. Find SOMETHING to do. Get back into an active state. If you continue to sleep right after eating, your body will develop a habit and your internal clock may give you sleepless nights.

However, it it feels too much out of the ordinary, you may want to have a more detailed checkup.

If you feel bad when you eat , eat really small portions a few times a day!

that's strange

I'm not your doctor. Listen to him.

I sometimes get tired right after i eat...Some people are like this and some arent

I dont think it really means anything

Also i know if i eat alot of bread, i pass out within the next hour

have you had a thyroid test? I thik it might be a good idea to go back to your doctor and tell him your still concerned.
Perhaps ask him to refer you to a nutritionist. You may have some intolerance. I used to feel sleepy after eating and it turned out i had a wheat intolerance but i didnt put 2 and 2 together because wheat is hidden in all sorts of things you wouldnt expect it to be in.
Dont let your doctor fob you off. Demand he/she looks into it properly. However, if your still getting nowhere with them then try seeing a kinesiologist. good luck x x

I think that the digestive process can take so much energy that it can make some people(like me and you) feel very sleepy. I have fallen asleep at work and only by good fortune did I awaken before a boss came upon me. At a friend's house if I have eaten before I arrive I almost always fall asleep and sometimes for a full half an hour. Unfortunately, I do not know of any solution. You are certainly not eating to excess that's for sure.
