Why am I not losing weight when I am working so hard?? please help???!

Question: I am only eating 1200 calories a day and my BMR is 2800 calories...That alone should cause me to lose 2-3lbs a week, on top of that I do pilates for 20minutes and walk at a brisj pace for 1 hour(two half hour intervals). I even try and get a work out in at work but walking up and down the step ladder for 5 minute intervals within a half hour...what am I doing wrong...I get lots of fibre, and am taking CLA, Konjac Root, Calcium/Magnisum, Multivitamin, and some other stuff that doesnt relate to weight loss. I am overly obese(5'4" and 245lbs) and am really working hard to change my lifestyle, but being that it has been 1 month and I have gained 2lbs, I am becoming very demotivated, is there anything I can take to aid in my epic battle? I am not looking for an easy way out but at this rate I will never losse weight and I am working so hard...

I think that what you are doing is fine, you should be loosing shed loads of weight.

I think that there is an underlying medical problem that is stopping you losing weight, like an under active thyroid.

Why don't you go and see your doctor to get some test to see if there is anything stopping you losing weight.

You also don't mention alcohol, alcohol is very high in calories and they are known in the dieting world as 'empty calories' they do absolutely nothing for you, and the feeling of dehydration the next day makes you think that you are hungry and can trigger binge eating.

If you are drinking try stopping, if you can't give up alcohol totally, then allocate a day when you have a very low calorie drinking session - spirits are good with natural juices. Vodka a squeeze of lime and soda water is rocking, also tequila, squeeze of lime and soda tastes like a margarita!

Try measuring yourself, you might find inches going but not pounds yet! I'm serious, it does happen.

Best of luck
Don't give up, if there's weight to lose you will lose it.

Maybe you should go to your doctor for some advice. My sister really struggled when she was trying to lose weight, she ate all the right things and exercised and didnt lose a pound. Turned out she had an under-active thyroid.

1. how many meals are you eating ? you should eat 4-5 meals per day, they should be smallish. Avoid eating meals couple hours before bed time.
2. Walking up/down ladder is not the best workout in your condition (you will have problems with joints), however walking/jogging/bikes is very good.
3. What helped me is stoping using sugar in my diet... No sweets, sugared coffee and similar.
4. I think you calculate BMR incorrectly. 1 lbs of fat uses up much less energy than 1lbs of muscle. And your metabolism is shut down. However, 1200 -1600 calories are good estimate of diet.
5. Gaining muscle mass (that is weight training) will help you loose fat in the long run. Maybe, just maybe you gained not fats, but started gaining some muscles and that will help to reduce fat long term.
Overall, it is important to start, and I think you will start seeing results.

I don't know why you're not losing weight but you probably will eventually. Maybe you shouldn't focus so much on losing and focus more on your great changes in lifestyle. Don't weigh yourself too often. Find a support group; even if it's just one person. I've heard that online groups can be really motivating.

Hmm this seems very tricky. From what you have said i would have expected you to be losing at least 2lb a week! There are two things that i can think of that might be causing this. Either the calories that you are eating, although there are not many, are high in fat. Try and eat loads and loads of vegetables and grilled fish and chicken. The other thing that i think is more likely is that you have dropped your calories too far and too fast. I think its most likely that you are eating too little. If your body thinks its being starved, which it may do if youve dropped them too far, it will hold onto every tiny little ounce of fat it can. I would recommend upping your calorie intake to 1800 calories a day and doing 200 kcals worth of exercise. I have checked this number on a few websites which concure. Try that for a week and see if you lose any weight. I am willing to bet your body just needs a bit more food, so it doesnt thinks its starving. If that still doesnt work then go see a doctor. Dont be afraid to eat a little bit more. It will be ok.

You are actually cutting your calories too much!
Your body is starving, so your metabolism is shutting down and not burning calories.
In addition, any weight you loose WILL BE MUSCLE!
This will in turn make it even easier for you to gain weight.

First, I am calculating your BMR around 1900 calories. Eat a healthy and balanced diet of no greater deficit than 500 calories a day less than your BMR. Do this for 2 weeks, then if you see no results, move it down another 100. If you are eating less than 600-700 calories of your BMR and not loosing weight still, then you need to see a doctor.

Also, write down EVERYTHING you eat in a day and add it up. Most people vastly underestimate their caloric intake and underestimate their exercise. Make sure you realize what a serving is. What most people think is a serving is actually 2 or 3 servings. Measure stuff out in 1/4 c and 1/2 cups. You will realize you eat way too much.

you need to eat more and excersise more
