Why do I sabotage my plans?!

Question: I am trying to diet before I leave for my trip to Europe. I make wrong food choices because I think, well nobody's going like me over there because everybodys skinny, etc.

And everybody's shallow too, right?

Here's some inside info that may surprise you - not only are there lots of fat people in Europe, but there are even more people who don't judge others purely on the basis of their weight and shape.

It sounds as if you have issues with both food and self-confidence. "Wrong" food choices are only wrong if they're additive-loaded, or excessive. Even then, a bar of chocolate or slice of pizza won't sabotage your whole life as long as you don't binge on it and neglect the good stuff.

Fresh fruit, veg and protein will give you glowing skin, shiny hair, sparkling eyes and vitality, and that always looks attractive. Lots of beautiful Italian, German, Swedish and Greek girls and boys load up on cheese, olives, wine, bread and salads because they know that energy and good health are attractive in themselves. If you were the skinniest person in the world, but boring to talk to and with no enjoyment of life, it wouldn't make you popular or help you have a good time.

My advice to you is don't think about right and wrong food choices based on how much weight you may gain or lose. Instead think about the foods that are going to give you the right nutrients for your skin and hair and eyes and 'joie de vivre' - French for the joy of living.

If you're worried about your fitness, get some exercise in. Play tennis, skate or skateboard, walk a lot. It'll help you enjoy all the sightseeing to come, and you may lose a bit of weight.

Then get over here with a big smile on your face and you'll have a fabulous trip.

You're probably trying to be too strict with your diet by saying no this or no that, making yourself miserable, and then giving into your food cravings. Instead, try some moderation. Allow yourself one sweet a day, or one serving of chips... whatever your weakness is.

I also wouldn't worry so much about what others think about you. If you love yourself, everyone else will too. Have some confidence. :)

Well you break your diet because you're human and if it makes you feel better there are loads of fat people in Europe! Also most of us are not shallow enough to like or dislike someone based on their weight.
