Hi i just found out I'm a diabetic what can i safely eat at all meal times?!


Question: i found out im a diabetic just this week and my doctor put me on metaformin 1 500mg a day to start but i want to know what i can eat safely with out being or feeling ill diabeties does run in my family but only my mum and my mums mum.
i am overweight yes before you ask i know this dont help but 1 thing i will say is im not 1 of them people who sit and eat and eat all day and dont eat sweets either,.

i my self take metfomin for diebeties its took me about 4 months to lose 20pound i,m finding it really hard to lose weight i go to the gym 5 times a week and swimming and arobics 2 aweek i get really stressed cause some weeks i wont of lost any weight and i wont of done anything different i would not go on a mad diet just eat heathly and be happy

Best bet is to avoid stuff like bread, pasta, rice, potatoes. Also avoid sweets and sugar. One of the best diets to be on if you are diabetic is South Beach.

After 6 years of trying to find out what foods I can eat, I have come to the conclusion that the only way is to cease eating sugar - in all forms - including honey. This includes the sugar substitutes. I also avoid grains and should avoid potatoes but don't.

Protein and low glycemic carbohydrates are the best things to eat.

Well, I suggest you go to the American Diabetes Association website - this is a great source of information on controlling your Diabetes. It contains info on diets, exercise, etc. Did you know that even losing 10-15 lbs can help lower your blood sugars, did you also know that exercising daily can lower your blood sugars? Check out this site, you will find it very helpful.
