i can guarantee it's not 2000 cals a day, unless you're about six feet tall.

how tall are you?

later edit- your BMI is 21. you are perfect. this is actually the most desired bmi for women. and if you are moderately active and want to keep your weight, 2000 is actually a pretty good number for you, according to some Internet research. if you still want to tone up a bit, try weight training.

hey!

A few months ago, i basically had the exact same question...
here is my answer for you:

go to www.sparkpeople.com!!
It is completely FREE you just make an account for yourself, input all of your info, (i.e. height, weight, activity level/goal) and it will tell u not only how many calories u need, but it will give you suggestions on what to eat (i.e. meal plans based on ur food preference! how cool is that!)
it also gives u a nutrition tracker where u can count ur calories, or any other nutrient (i.e. fat, calcium, etc) as well as a fitness tracker to track ur exercise, and it gives u a workout plan based on ur goals!!
plus, there are mssg boards, groups to join for pple like ourselves, articles, hlth info...and more!
friggin awsome! and its FREE!!! :D

good luck!

Q: How many calories would be a good intake for the day, on average for an 18 year old?
A: Exactly as many as you will spend.

The fact that you take in 2000 and spend 1000 means that you will put on an extra pound and a half every week for the rest of your life. You either need to increase your activity (highly recommended) or decrease your intake (better be careful not to end up with a nutritional deficiency cutting it back too much more).

I know you're not a child, but check out http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/... anyway. The same principles apply.

in response to Mr. Why...you need more calories than what you "spend" because your body needs calories to run off of for even the most simple of things (like breathing...it takes energy...guess where the energy comes from...) if you burn off everything you're taking in there will be nothing left for your body....
i would reccomend eating more fruits and veggies (half your plate is actually supposed to be fruits and veggies with one 1/4 lean meat and the other 1/4 carbohydrates) and staying away from fatty foods (like foods with cheese sauces...they're usually horrible for you)...if you up your lean protein intake you would also increase your ability to gain more muscle (more muscle=more calorie burn)...try 1800 calories a day if 2000 isnt working for you but i wouldnt go much lower than that if you're working out...your body still needs fuel (if that doesnt work i would try varying your excersizes targeting different areas at different intensities)

1000! god!

i'm your same height and age, but weigh about 110 and i only eat about 1000 calories which still allows me to get my daily workouts in, i'm not saying eat that low (i just can't fit anymore food in my body if i tried) but i'd say for your weight eat about 1500.

and what's that song that i helped you with that sounds like mesmerised? sorry for asking on here! i just really like mesmerised so i think i'll like that...
