How can I get through work without starving to death?!

Question: I just started a new job as a bartender. Today I worked an almost 7 hour shift (not counting the drive time there and back of almost 2 hours) and there was no mention made of break or eating a snack or even having a (non-alcoholic) drink! Yesterday was the same, and I realized later that I peed once before work (9:30am) and not again til almost MIDNIGHT! I am used to grazing all day, and at 5'7" 123 lbs, I'm afraid I don't have much time til I completely dehydrate/wither away!! What should I do?

Protein shakes are good. Just throw some fruit (oranges, bananas, cherries, whatever you like) in the blender with some soft silken tofu or soy protein (I like the tofu better because it isn't gritty) and some fruit juice. Protein bars you can keep in your pockets and much down on in the bathroom stall (I know it sounds gross) are good too. And keep a water bottle nearby at all times.

Also be aware that if you live in the USA, many states have labor laws requiring your workplace to give you at least a half hour lunch if you work more than 6 hours.

Get a big fat sausage in your mouth, I'm sure your boss will help.

State law, you are entitled to a 15 minute break every 4 hours of work. Never skimp on fluids, water being the best choice.

Wishful has some good advice, but probably not very practical in your situation. Like previously stated, it's the law and your right to get periodic breaks. That being said, you could drink a dense fruit juice or a protein/juice mix (Odwalla, etc.) and that could hold you over for a little bit. Basically, you HAVE to take a break to eat!

And take care of your dehydration with, let's see, water? 15 hours is a long time between pit stops! I'm sure your urine was as dark as an old cup of apple juice sitting in the sun.

Like people have mentioned, you need to ask for your breaks. Also, most bartenders have drinks behind the bar, whether it is bottled water or something off the soda fountain. You should also be able to take bathroom breaks when necessary. Basically, you need to talk to your boss to sort out your concerns.

Umm, peanuts? Limes? Salt?

Just eat what's available.
