Can y ou actually drink TOO much water? I think I might be...........?!

Question: drinking a bit too much--I exercise regularly and I'm in great shape, but I drink about 2 gallons of water a day. I do not have any diabetes which would make me unusually thirsty, but it's almost like I'm addicted to water. I never leave the house without my water bottle--is this weird?

Yes. It flushes out sodium and other nutrients out of your body. If all you drink for fluids is water you should be fine. If you're drinking other liquids with meals I would try to cut back on the water. You're drinking 4 times the amount of water recommended by people who do the recommending (p.s. no one knows why its 8, 8 oz. glasses a day). But it also has to do with how much you exercise. I would recommend seeing a nutritionist for a more comprehensive understanding.

No not at all water cant hurt u, but if make sure u drink the water in differnt times dont drink all that at once

yes it is weird your too healthy for your own good drink less water and eat more food but not too much food just a little

Yes. You CAN drink too much water. In fact drinking too much is far more harmful than not drinking enough. It dilutes your blood and causes your body to shut off slowly ... not pretty.

However, always having water on hand is a good idea! Just ... try to keep the intake at a normal level ...

Yes, you can drink too much water. People have died from water intoxication.

What happens if you are without your water? If you get really sick if you go more than an hour without it then you could have a serious problem. And you CAN drink too much but it's not easy. Long before you do damage, your body gives you plenty of signals that it doesn't want you to drink anymore. Do you have to force it down? Then you're putting yourself in danger. But if you're feeling fine with drinking it, then you're ok. It's just that too much (where you have to force it down) can dilute the sodium content of your body so much that you can die. But other than that, water is good for you.

yes u can my best friends cuzin died of drinking to much water he drank about 11 gallons of it a one time befor is compitition and he just collapsed and died. but if u have to much of anything u will die

it's not weird at all because me too i do the same whatever i drink it don't stop my thirsty like water i love water and thanks god i am healthy

yes you can die from water intoxication.
but that would only happen if you were to drink the two gallons all at once.
im sure if you eat enough and exercise daily you should be okay with that amount split up throughout the day.

ever wonder why the ocean is salty? water and minerals flow in but only water evaporates out ,leaving the minerals.now consider you body is like the ocean you keep drinking mega amounts of water a day, collecting minute amounts of heavy metals, salts, clorene ,pesticides, etc, now you can sweat out most of these compounds, but the kidneys are designed to separate water and minerals so your kidneys wouldn't eliminate much, and some would lodge in the fat cells in your body, over time you might build up a toxic amount, probably not ,but who knows.another possibility if you over hydrate you dilute your electrolytes ,might make your heart skip,or cause you to crave salt, you might take in too much salt as a result.
