I just bought an elliptical trainer... Now what?!

Question: Today I am picking up my elliptical trainer I bought. It's really nice with adjustable resistance, digital meters, etc and I can't wait to use it! But, I need some advice on how to use it effectively so that I can actually tone up and get into shape.

I have never been the athletic type, so this is a big step for me (but a positive one, since I really want to get into shape so that I can be athletic) and I don't want to end up killing myself in the first week of doing this. However, I still want to be doing something right and effective.

I am not terribly overweight. I have some problem areas to work on, but I only need to lose about 10-15lbs. I am 125lbs, and for the record, only 5'3". Can anyone give me some pointers on what will get me into better shape? My problem areas are my upper arms (flabby), my thighs and butt, and my love handles.

Well, go at a steady pace, and drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated is my first tip.

Also, do it for as long as you can and time yourself. Do it about 3 times a week to help you improve stamina on top of getting in shape. Hopefully you should improve by a little time each week. Set yourself a target, for instance 'to improve by a minute each week'. Make it realistic too!

One last thing - warm up and stretch to ensure you don't get any injuries!

i love that thing it's sooooooo amazing! lol well for starters just do the fat burning program. and about every week make the resistence go a little higher and you will burn more fat. and when you get really good u can go the interval ones! where u burn about 550 calories in 1 hour!

good luck! :)
