Can someone give me some advice on how to do the splits?!


Question: I am soo Jealous of my friends doing the splits and i the only one doing one that can't even touch the ground! im so sick and im ready to take up the challenge SOMEONE HELP ME! and gimme some advice too! it'll be such an honour and help if u would help me!

I did them when I was a cheerleader

I had to stretch everyday.

We had stairs in the living room, and I'd put one leg on about the 3rd step--stretch. Then the other leg.
Kept doing it until it didnt hurt anymore.
Then up to the 4th and then higher steps.
I liked stretching in a pool too. I dont know if it helps, but it seems easier.

Primarily, you have to get the tendons real stretchy
I could do them straight out to each side, as well.

You need a lot of dedication...

You will have to start stretching daily. I stretch about 3 times a day because it relaxes me and relieves stress in the body. Just keep stretching daily and you will notice you will get closer and closer. On one day in the future you will do the splits. Good luck and stay focused.

ok i was so far away from the ground and in jazz(once a week) we do torture stretches(3ppl needed) and u lay on the ground sum1 holds down ur left leg to the ground and the other person pulls ur right leg closer to ur face. or until u say stop. make sure ur leg is straight and ur toe it pointed. practice ur splits all the time.
and i can touch the ground

i was very flexible and athletic in 5th grade .. i exercised for like an hour of gymnastics (i was rlly good at it but learned everything on my own!) and walk/jog more than a mile on the treadmill (i lost 5 lbs in a week .. dont think thats healthy?) but anyways .. i had a natural ability to go low on the ground .. stretch a lot and exercise a lot and just keeeep on trying .. i couldnt do a scorpion and it would KILL my back and legs to go behind me but now i can do it .. idk it just happened haha

the only thing i know is keep stretching... you'll get there one day.

i know it's probably not very helpful but the only thing u can do is STRETCH!!
do a split and go down as far as u can then push yourself a TEENY bit further then get back up
the next day do it again
REPEAT
REPEAT
REPEAT
someday in the future you will be able to touch the ground and perform a perfect split

I love questions like this, and it makes me feel so good to know girls will always care about stuff like this, you know, IMPORTANT stuff. Sigh.

I find it helpful to take an extremely hot shower or an extremely hot bath for at least ten minutes. Or you can jog or run in place- do jumping jacks for seven or more minutes before you start. I suggest stretching the entire leg- not just for the splits. If you stretch just for the splits you will have an imbalance in your leg muscles.
Bend over touch the floor and hold for two minutes
Separate your legs more than hip distance apart and try to touch your head to the ground (don't push your self if it hurts) this is called wide angle standing forward bend- link at bottom :) Sit on the floor and touch your toes or as far as you can go
I find it easy to do the splits if I go into a prep, like triangle pose, then to pigeon pose, then to a side split. If you want to excel in this- stretch twice a day for at least twenty minutes. If you don't want to spend that much time- do it at least for five minutes.
