you should vary the intensity of exercise regardless if you are using weights or cardio. you would want to have days of high intensity exercise where you use heavy weights or days where you run a faster pace or sprint. then there should be days of lighter weights or slower paced running or walking. the intensity at which exercise is performed at determines how much stress is placed on the central nervous system. it takes the CNS longer to recover from exercise than does skeletal muscle.

depends on the individual and their diets & time management..it hasnt been proven to improve fitness,but yes it will make time management easier..
