Maybe I shouldn't be so active (READ)?!

Question: Since I've been active, I burn about 250 extra calories a day (I run about 3 miles), but I eat about 550 more to energize me(because I get really hungry!).

So that means I am eating an extra 300 calories a day. Over about 4 months I've gained about 12 lbs (some muscle from the running and alot of it fat from the extra calories).

Should I just go back to about 1 mile a day? At least then I wasn't so ravenous and hungry (and FAT!)
Thx

I think you just need to change the foods you eat by including some high energy feel good foods or so called 'super foods'. There are loads of lists on google if you just type in 'super foods'. Such foods either make you feel fuller for longer, help you feel more awake and improve your health. The order and size of your meals can also have an effect on how much snacking we do. Your breakfast should be your biggest meal, and your evening meal should be the smallest if you want to change your eating habits to help loose weight. This routine will slowly put your body into a fat burning mode and when you sleep at night you burn the maximum amount of fat. Also, rather than one meal inbetween breakfast and evening, split it into two smaller meals or simply eat it in halves about 2 hours apart to avoid too much blood being sent to your stomach at once, this keeps the blood running throughout your body, most importantly in your muscles, which burns yet more fat and also helps to put an end to bad snacking.

How about you weight train to add more muscle? Did you actually get your body fat measured to see how much muscle you've gained?
Ten lbs of additional muscle will burn 500 more calories a day just maintaining. Being healthy is more then a number on a scale. Get your body fat analyzed and then go from there. 21-24% body fat is ideal for women..
This is the difference between 5 lbs of fat and 5 lbs of muscle..

If you've lost fat and gained muscle, you will still look smaller despite weighing the same..
I wouldn't give up the exercise, it's good for your hearts health. If anything I would add in weight training in addition to that..
