How do I change my bad eating habits at work without coming off as a snob?!

Question:

How do I change my bad eating habits at work without coming off as a snob?

We literally have a picnic everyday at work and it's showing on my hips, waist, and in my health. It's time for it to stop but I don't know how to stop it. All the eating goes on right in my work area. These people have already said that they aren't interested in "healthy eating," so suggesting that they join me isn't going to work. I don't want them around me with all the fried, greasy food. It's just like if you were trying to stop smoking, you wouldn't hang out with smokers. But these people are my friends and I just don't know how to stop this. Any suggestions???

Answers:

Blame your doctor!

"My doctor says my cholesterol/ triglycerides/ blood sugar is too high and I can't eat chocolate/fried chicken/too much fat".

"That looks good, but my doctor says to stay away from ice cream/fried foods/cookies. He's really mad at me!"

"This looks great--I'll just take a tiny bit of it since my doctor told me to avoid butter/sugar until my blood sugar/cholesterol goes down a little."

"This looks wonderful! I had a huge breakfast and I'm so full--can I take a piece of it home to enjoy tonight?"

Change the sentence to suit whatever food your co-workers and employer are offering you. If you say you're dieting, you'll just get unwanted diet advice. I have used all of the above tactics to avoid unhealthy foods as well as foods that looked really nasty. You won't offend anyone and it will look as though you WANT to eat that stuff, but your doctor won't let you.
