Bench Press Stories Needed...?!

Question: In my engineering class, I have a problem that I need some justifications to. The problem is that people have been hurt on the Bench Press because they couldnt get the bar up... Does anyone have some proof to this? Or statistics that they can provide a source to.. Thanks a lot.

Here's one (not the one I was looking for but it still gets the point across): http://www.break.com/index/spotter-drops...

Here's the one I was trying to find originally: http://www.break.com/index/dude-tries-to...
It's a bit graphic (the guys arm breaks).

Not breathing in when yourlifting

Breathe in on the way down and out on the way up if the weight is too heavy use a spotter

You can definitely get hurt on a bench press a number of ways. Your shoulder or arm could give out and you can drop the weight on your chest/neck/head. If you can't get the last rep, you can just tip the weights off though.

I have torn muscles in my chest on the way up when bench pressing.

From what I can gather from your question it would seem that the people being hurt are simply using too much weight, thus they are unable to to get the bar up. The stress of trying too shift so much weight would cause injuries ranging from the shoulders - ie muscular or rotator cuff injuries, pectoral tears - especially the 'minor' pectoral that connects across the chest to the shoulder, to even the quadriceps in extreme cases - men in strongman meets and powerlifting have torn quadricep muscles from flexing and lifting more beyond their means.
As far as the bench press being the piece of gym equipment causing the most injury, this is true to an extent, but based almost exclusively on the apparatus's popularity. Any man that walks into a gym has to play on the bench press. What do most sport stores sell? A bench set etc.
