Down a size but scale won't budge (slightly long)?!

Question: So I'm having a bit of a dilemma here. I've been trying to lose weight and I've managed to drop from a size 14/16 to about a 12 in 2wks. but the scale says I've only lost like 4lbs! I'm so pissed and I want to keep trying but I really have trouble believe it when people say things like "muscle weighs more than fat". It's a little discouraging and I'm trying not lose hope. I've been doing a lot more physical activity such as hiking and have cut out most junk food and been trying to get more lean protein and veggies in my diet. Has anyone ever dropped sizes and STILL not been able to get the numbers on the scale to budge???

Here are my current stats
Gender-Female
Age-19
Height-6ft
Weight-205.5 lbs =[
Dress size- 12 womens (according to Calvin Klein)

You cant rely too heavily on the scale. You are a tall woman. Exercising is so good for you, and chances are, you are gaining muscles. Muscles weigh more than fat.. a LOT more. Consider the next time you pick up a steak.. hold a quarter sized portion of fat in one hand, and a quarter sized portion of muscle in another. You should notice the weight difference.

Also, sometimes when you start exercising, you might retain a little water, which also adds weight. To avoid retaining water, ironically, you need to drink more water. Your body is thirsty, if it is retaining water. Do not do any dehydrate yourself, ok?? Without water, you cannot cool off, and your body will not work efficiently at losing weight, even. You could also have a heat stroke. Drink a lot of water.

I am 5'3" and weigh 165 pounds. I do not generally weigh myself, and the only thing on me that is thick is my waist, at a size 11. Everything else is rock solid. Keep doing what youre doing. You might actually gain weight, but as long as your clothes keep getting loose on you, youre going in the right direction.

PS- Please, you do not need to go any lower than about a size 9 or 10. You are tall, and your stomach and hips need to accomodate your organs. Do not try to lose too much weight to fit a certain standard. I am sure you are 100% gorgeous!! =)

I wouldn't worry about the scale too much if you are losing inches. If you're getting smaller it's a good thing! Muscle takes up less room than fat, so if you are gaining muscle your weight will stay the same, but you will still lose inches. Keep at it and your weight will start moving again.

Yes. And it is true, that muscles weight more than fat.
When you start doing lots of physical activity, your body starts to adapt to it, and build muscles to support these activities, so it is normal, that you got muscles.

We've all heard that muscle weighs more than fat--and it's true, it does. Still, fat doesn't turn INTO muscle, and generally speaking, you'll lose fat before you'll gain muscle.

It's fantastic that you've dropped an entire dress size (or 2!). I'm sure it's discouraging that the scale doesn't reflect this. Let me ask you though--had you not stepped on the scale at all and simply seen yourself drop 1-2 dress sizes, would you have written this post? My guess is probably not. Do yourself a favor and put the scale away for awhile and just concentrate on you feel in your body. You're obviously a beautiful, fit person and you need not worry what the scale says to convince you otherwise.

Keep at the exercise and healthy eating--it's absolutely the right thing to do for your body and your long-term health. Chances are, you'll continue to see positive changes (including on the scale). But for now, do yourself a favor and get that scale out of your sight, girl!
