How to do stretches or a side split?!


Question: I have been trying to learn a side split for about 2 months now. I am on the lazy side so I didn't stretch everyday, but now I am stretching everyday. If anyone has any idea on stretches or how to maintain a side split, answers are highly appreciated, and I also want to learn a side splits soon because I have a gymnastic class and you have to do a trick and I wanted the side split as my trick, and like I said, answers are highly appreciated! :D

to stretch your inner thigh muscles, sit on the floor with the bottom of your feet pushed together, then pull you feet toward your crotch (similar to Indian style, cross legged, but the bottom of your feet are together, like clapping). Pull your feet toward your crotch slowly while trying to keep your knees down. If you do this too fast your knees will naturally go up and if you try to force your knees down you will pull (or even tear) a muscle. As with all exercises do this slowly and well controlled. Once you can keep your feet pulled all the way up and knees down you will be able to hold your split
