Am I fat? I can't be fat...I've been skinny my whole life.?!


Question: I'm 5 feet 1 inch and weigh 160 lbs. I've been skinny my whole life. I'm 28 years old. But recently my mom and others have been telling me...and I do mean in nice ways...but all the same...they's been asking me if I've been watching what I eat? Asking me if I knew I was gaining weight? I even had a few people at work who thought I was pregnant. It's driving me crazy. I think I look fine...I don't think I'm overweight...but now that other people are asking me about it so often..I'm beginning to wonder. How do you know if your belly is considered fat? I can still fit into my size 12 pants like always...so I think i'm still ok...but i'm realizing now since people have said things...that my belly does hang over...and it looking rounder? Oh geez...are people right? I thought I was fine as long as I could fit in the size still. I don't want to be considered overweight...someone who knows what is considered overweight..please let me know if I would be considered overweight?

this will tell you based on your height and weight whether you are obese or not. I put your numbers in and you are NOT overweight, you are "obese."

for comparison sake, I'm 5'2, 132 pounds and 7 months pregnant and still fall under normal weight.

No of course not! , you cant tell who i am because im anonymus :S but i can tell you im 14 and i am 8 stone! if thats any constellation i feel that if you believe your fat then what am i!? ive considered myself to be skinny as such, im not getting angry btw im just saying :D but seriously you're not fat and never think you are EVER , you could make yourself anorexic or something , not saying you would but who knows!? there could be a chance anyway trust YOUR NOT FAT :D love from me :) x

For your sex and height, you are about 20 - 25 pounds overweight. There are of course many variables, such as your body's muscle weight percentage and how broad your shoulders are and all of that, but generally speaking you are overweight.

I wouldn't say you have much to worry about health-wise, but if you are really concerned with your appearance than you could consider doing some exercises or changing up your diet a bit.

However, in my opinion I don't think you have any real need to lose weight.

You really could loose a few... I'm 5'2 and 100 pounds.

Oh an about your update, you really shouldn't be making excuses for yourself. Why are you asking if you're fat if you feel so good and thin? Seriously...

sorry dear, but size 12 is already a little big.

um...no offense,but size 12 is not skinny.It is kinda big.I'm 5'4,140,and I am a size 7-8.I think that you should weigh a lot less than I do.I am taller than you,and I weigh less.You might wanna consider cutting out butter,or sweets or something(soda.It takes 17 tsp of sugar to make a can of coke.)to lose the extra jiggly around your middly(thats what i call my extra weight)

you have a BMI of 30 which is considered obesity this isnt healthy for you....Its good you feel positive about yourself and should never lose that feeling but you should also consider your health.

I am 5 feet 2 inches and weigh 110. I can understand how you wouldn't be able to see if are gaining weight because you said that all your life you have been skinny. When I start gaining I don't realize it because I also am so used to be skinny. I hate to say that you are fat but I will say this. You are at an unhealthy weight. Lose some weight to be healthy and confident. Don't do it to be skinny. Its so brave of you to do this and I am sure you can whip yourself back into shape. Best of luck and best wishes. Good for you

You might not be overweight, just a little chubby. The best thing to do is eat slowly and stop when you're full. If you starve yourself, you will gain more weight, so don't do that!

At 5'1" and 160, I don't think there's any way you could call yourself skinny. Before, when people WEREN'T making these kinds of comments, how much did you weigh? If you are now more than 20% bigger than you were when other people might have agreed you were skinny, then I guess you should agree with people's polite questions. I don't really know THAT much about women's sizes, but I think size 12 for someone your height would be considered a rather LARGE size. I don't think I would call you fat, really, particularly since there's no picture to judge by, but you MIGHT be pushing the word "plump" past the point most people would describe as "pleasingly."

i agree .. i little overweight but nothong you cant fit with exersizes .. make it your mission to go down a few sizes :D

Ignore other people's rude comments. If you don't feel good about yourself, no one else will either. You may fall into the overweight category a little bit, but luckily, losing weight is easier than gaining for most people.
Before you decide to lose the weight, make sure that you are not happier with it. In other words, you may like the way you look; it could be solely the pressure of other people that caused you to feel this way.
If you decide you would like to lose weight, keep up a stable exercise routine of at least half an hour of fitness every day. Eat healthily, or start a diet if you feel obligated.

Yes, you would be considered overweight for your height. You are fairly short, your ideal weight should be somewhere between 100-120 lbs. I am 4'11'' and weight about 90 lbs- 2 inches shorter than you and thinish. But the actual pounds are not what matters most; it;s your health and how you feel you look. If you feel fine the way you are, dont go crazy with weight loss just to please others. Ask a doctor before you start any weight loss program and remember the best way to lose weight is the proven old fashioned method of eating less, only healthy foods and exercising. Good Luck.

I'm 5'4" and 165 ish depending on the scale and the day =]
I am a little overweight according to my doctor but nothing to really be concerned with, really I just need to tone and eat less sugar. But my boyfriend likes the extra cush! So I am not to distressed. If you think that your weight is affecting how yo feel and preform on a day to day basis then start a "diet" not necessarily to lose weight just to eat healthier, that way you will feel better and you won't be so focused on the weight, it will just come off. Maybe do some crunches every morning to tighten up your tummy? That will also give you some endorphins to go on for the day.

Okay STOP the Panic! You are NOT fat. And 12 is not at all huge or even large. You are beautiful okay .At about 30 women go through a last growth spurt many Dr's. believe where your body changes. My oldest sister gained to 2 1/2 inches in height and went up one shoe size. And lost 20 pounds. I gained one inch in height 5'0 from 4'11. So please don t worry. Easier said than done though. Right? If you are healthy enough just add a workout (aerobics) 2 or 3 times a week. Everything will be fine. Even with a little weight gain it will come off right away with cardiovascular activity. You are NOT fat!!!

umm your fat. sorry but if your 5ft & 1 in and weight 160 then of course you are. that's reality.

& you are considered overweight.

& if you don't think so then that means im probably anorexic if you believe 160 is not overweight for your height!
