Grapefruit Juice?!


Question: Will drinking a glass of grapefruit juice before each meal help burn more fat. Real juice not Ruby Red. My MIL mentioned to me that doing that along with my new eating habits and working out will help the weight loss process.

There is some evidence out there to support grapefruit juice in aiding weight loss, however the increased weight loss is not significant. It's also not clear whether or not you need to eat the actual grapefruit or just consume the juice. Either way, I think the benefits don't outweigh the calories and sugar from drinking it with each meal. In general, it is recommended that you consume less fruit juice and more whole fruit to reap its full benefits from fiber, antioxidants, etc. I would suggest sticking with a glass of juice or a grapefruit a day and not with each meal. Also, just in case, make sure if you are on any lipid altering meds (i.e. statins) you do not consume any grapefruit or grapefruit juice at all. They conflict with one another.

No. It is a myth. Most grapefruit juices are sweetened. Pure juice will also not help.

Sure would make it from organic grapefruits. There actually is an enzyme in grapefruits that burns fat. Eating grapefruits all day, as many and as often as you desire, will speed the fat burning process.

eat a green apple and drink 300ml of green tea 40 minutes before meals..that works for me..at times i just drink water with that apple..it all depends if you can actually stick with drinking grapefruit juice the rest of your life..create a diet youself for yourself using foods that you can adapt to in order to lose excess body fat and keep it off for good...

there is nothing miraculous about grapefruit it has no direct effect on fatty acid metabolism. grapefruit is a low Gi fruit, that's it. grapefruit aiding fat burning is one of the many severely incorrect dieting myths spread today.
