Whats a simple, not drastic diet that doesnt restrict me to leaves and sticks?!

Question:

Whats a simple, not drastic diet that doesnt restrict me to leaves and sticks?

i want to get in shape. i was at the docter recently and he said i wasnt overweight, just a little poofy around the edges. i want to loose weight and look good by the time school comes back at the end of august. i live on a farm so im pretty active already, and i just started going to the gym for half an hour three times a week with my mom. is this enough? i dont want to restrict myself to 'leaves and sticks'. i still want to eat at least a little of the foods i love (pizza, ice cream, candy, semi-sugery cereals, etc.) but im afraid if i eat stuff like that too much, the extra exercise wont be any good. i still try to eat smaller portions, and add fruit and vegitables to every meal. im just not sure that will be enough to lose weight in less than two months.
if u have any suggestions that might help, plese say so. it would be really great to go back to school and have people say, "hey! u lost weight! u look good!" please help me thanx

Answers:

Going to the gym is good, make sure you are combining weight training with cardio. You can lift weights at the gym and do cardio outside of it, such as jogging, biking, swimming, long walks, whatever.

As far as dieting, try to make healthier choices that you'll still enjoy. Cut out as many sugary drinks as you can - soda is horrible for you. For cereal, try to find something whole grain that you like, or at least lesser in sugar. For ice cream, you can eat the new Edy's slow churned varieties, they contain half the fat and 1/3 the sugar and taste almost better than regular ice cream! And for pizza, try to stay away from the chains like Pizza Hut or Dominos and order from italian restaurants, or for frozen pizza get DiGiorno or better brands than the cheap ones. And as far as all other foods go, stay away from processed foods/white grains and try to eat only whole grains.

The more you exercise, the less picky you have to be about your diet...the less you exercise, the more picky you need to be. But you should never, tip the scale too much (i.e. exercise a ton, but eat whatever you want whenever you want).
