If I weight 300 pounds and do 15 push-ups, about how much weight would I be able!
Question: If I weight 300 pounds and do 15 push-ups, about how much weight would I be able to bench press!?
Answers:
While bench pressing and doing push ups might be related in the sense that they work almost the same muscles, they are not exactly the same!. The main difference is that a push requires core and scapular stability because you are pushing your body against gravity!. In bench pressing you are doing the opposite which is to press a certain weight against gravity while using a bench to help with stabilization!.
Strength development is multidimensional!. Push up exercises will increase strength and develop more core stability but will eventually be restricted by body weight, even if you try different variations!. Using free weights are a great way to increase strength in all its forms (maximal strength, strength endurance, power,etc!.)!. I will recommend that you compare push ups to push ups and bench pressing to bench pressing and most importantly do as many different exercises to hit muscles from different angles and develop different aspects of strength!.

When you do a push up you're lifting about 60% of your body weight!. So each push up is equal to bench pressing about 180lbs!. If you plug that into a one rep max calculator you'll find that you should be able to lift 261lbs as your one rep max!. That's going to have a LOT of error though, because when you get above 10 reps you're starting to bring conditioning into the equation!. But that's approximately what you should be able to bench!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
If you can only do 15 push ups I'd say you could bench around 225!. A push up is not like a bench press!. You are not actually lifting all of your 300 lbs off the floor!. While most of the weight is on your hands, a great portion of that 300lbs is on your toes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
