Is spinach really a nutritious veggie for our body?!

Question:

Is spinach really a nutritious veggie for our body?

Few years ago I was heard that the existence iron in spinach is no good for our body since the human body lack the enzyme which is necessary to absorb the containing iron in this veggie.
How true is it?

Answers:

Thanks for asking this question. I had never heard about this fact before so I did a bit of research. Here's what I found:

Spinach is both good and bad as an iron source. Good because it contains a type of iron (non-hemme) that our body can not produce on its own. Bad because it contains something called oxalate which binds with iron and does not allow the iron in the spinach to be fully absorbed by our bodies.

However - if you combine your spinach salad with some foods that promote iron absorbtion, you can actually counteract the effects of the oxalate. Try some of these iron-promotion foods:

* Meat/fish/poultry

* Fruits: Orange, Orange Juice, cantaloupe, strawberries, grapefruit and other Vitamin-C rich fruits

* Vegetables: Broccoli, brussels sprouts, tomato, tomato juice, potato, green & red peppers
