What is the recommended intake amount (mg) of sodium a day?!

Question:

What is the recommended intake amount (mg) of sodium a day?

I am male. What is a good range of mg of sodium for losing weight? Like 1500mg, 2000mg, etc?

Answers:

RDI is 1500mg/day
Upper tolerable limit is 2300mg/day

Weight loss is dependent upon caloric intake vs. caloric output (exercise, etc), not on sodium.

In a normal healthy individual, sodium is controlled very well by the body. If you eat too much sodium, your kidney will get rid of it (you will pee it out). If you don't eat enough sodium, your kidney will hold on to the sodium (you won't pee it out).

Within normal ranges of sodium...and in a normal, healhty person (no kidney problems, etc), sodium will not influence your weight. And even transient fluid retention/reduction caused by sodium is not sustainable.

The key to weight loss is eating less and exercising more.

Hope this helps some.
