My friend is overweight, but was not at the beginning of the school year - how c!

Question:

My friend is overweight, but was not at the beginning of the school year - how can I help him?

At the beginning of this school year, my friend was 5'10" and 140 pounds. His parents divorced in October and his grades dropped. His dad died after the divorce from a heart attack at a young age. His mother was an alcoholic and she's going through rehab right now, so he lives with his step-dad who doesn't really like him all too much. He eats to make himself feel better, and now he's the same height, but 195 pounds. I need some tips on how to help him lose the weight and overcome his depression.

Thank you, and I appreciate it.

Answers:

When life has been so cruel to him, I am sure he is grateful to have a friend like you.

Being Frank about weight gain does not always help.

You could suggest doing more active things when you meet up. New hobbies, golfing, cycling you get the picture.

Ultimately though he needs hope and something to look forward to and with you by his side everything you do can help him get to that point.

All the very best to you both.
