Answers:

I am 4'9 and have experienced a significant weight gain. I, too, am working on losing weight. Here are a few pointers that I found help me:

1) Ease off of the alcohol. Your body will surpress the burning of fat for energy. See: http://www.thefactsaboutfitness.com/rese...

2) Understand what's healthy for you. Talking to a doctor/nutritionist is the best, but if you can't, these help along the way: http://www.nutritiondata.com/tools/calor... Establish the amount of calories that you need and your BMI as a jumping off point.

3) Learn your eating habits. Keep a food journal. Write down everything that you eat. I know, it's super tedious, but it helps you to see what you can improve on and where you may be able to cut things out. There are even alot of free online journals - http://www.fitday.com/

4) And last but certainly not the least, using that old high school P.E. adage - you should not consume more than the energy you can expend. It's important to get the exercise in. In addition to the small changes (like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walking a dog, etc), you need to make sure to get in a heart pumping workout for atleast 30 mins on atleast 3 days a week.

Having people to support you is also key so grab a buddy or go to the park with your boyfriend. It definitely takes discipline, and if you can handle it, you should begin to see improvements.

BEST OF LUCK
