Night shift has killed my conditioning. Any suggestions??!

Question:

Night shift has killed my conditioning. Any suggestions??

I've been doing a nightshift job for the last year and I've lost 12 pounds and shape. I have very little appetite also because my metabolism seem to have slowed considerably.

Answers:

I experienced the same thing when I was working night shift, especially the loss of appetite. What I did was try to focus on eating the appropriate food/amounts in conjunction with my sleeping... so, when I first woke up at 6:00pm I would eat something small and light like a piece of fruit, etc... instead of trying to eat the large heavy dinner meal that everyone else was eating at that time of the day. Then, around 6:00am I would eat a typical plate of dinner food. In between I would drink lots of beverages like tea, etc cause I usually couldn't really stomach much else.

I think the worst thing you can do with food is to put off eating all evening and night and then shovel back a bunch of food in the early morning when you suddenly feel hunger pangs. Even if you aren't hungry at all when you first wake up, force yourself to eat something, even if it's just an apple or orange.

Honestly, it didn't totally cure the problem. I had lots of issues sleeping as well and eventually I had to tell my work to take me off of that shift. But, it works better for some than others. Good luck, whatever you do!
