My doc just gave me phentermine - how fast will the weight come off?!

Question:

My doc just gave me phentermine - how fast will the weight come off?

I currently weigh 287 and am only 5'6". From experience how fast should the weight come off? I plan to walk everyday after work for exercise. Thanks!

Okay, I was on phentermine, so let me tell you what my experience was.
I come from a large family of BIG women, but have always maintained a healthy curvy body. When I got out of HS and started working & living on my own however I no longer had time to do all the activities I once did, and I added the pounds rapidly. At one point I got up to around 195lbs. (Mind you, I'm 5'2"...it was awful). At that point I got serious-my health scared me, considering so many people in my family have diabetese. So I started weight watchers and stuck to it strong. I did this and excersised a couple times a week with swimming every day for around a year but hit a platue at 175lbs.
On the next checkup I had with my Doctor she expressed that according to my BMI I was severly obese. After hearing from a friend about Phentermine I requested to take it, and my Dr perscribed it.
I took one pill every morning. I found that it made me full after eating only half of a small plate of food (like, THANKSGIVING full!), and gave me energy like crazy. It also gave me SEVERE dry mouth, but the nice thing about that was that I was drinking more water than I ever have before. Because of my extra energy I started going to the gym daily or at least 4 times a week. I found that I could not swim anymore, because the medication made my heart rate go way too high, and when I swam it got worse. When I excersised I had to be careful and monitor my heart rate closely because after only 15 min on the stationary bike it would jump to 200 (my max should have been 180 according to the charts). So I would excersice slowly, building it up to the stairs or the eliptical and having to take short breaks in between to lower the heart rate. During this time I saw my Dr monthly so she could monitor my progress and heart rate. (This is very important, because being over weight and with an increased heart rate you can have a heart attack before you realize what hit you.) One nice thing was that if I took the pill in the early morning I could go full throttle all day and then I slept like a ROCK when I went to bed.
After 4 months straight of this I went from 180 (yes I gained some back before I started on the pill) to 143lbs. Not a single pair of pants I owned would fit on me (they fell off). I looked and felt great. My Dr's goal for me was 130lbs, but at 145lbs friends and family urged me to stop where I was because I was looking way TOO THIN. (Even in High School, I have NEVER weighed less than 150lbs). So I got off the pills, and tried hard to maintain the level of activity and food consumption I did before. After moving away I no longer could get the pills even if I wanted too- and a VERY short time after I stopped them completely I started gaining weight back.
Sad to say I'm now back up to 170lbs, and struggling. Without having access to the pills I doubt if I can ever lose that much weight again, but I'm sure trying!
Point is: They are GREAT if you wanna lose a lot of weight- just excersise ALOT, (monitor that heart rate carefully), eat about half as much as you used to, and drink LOTS of water. And if you ever get off the pills- expect to gain some or all of it back.
Good luck tho man...
