Question about weight?!

Question:

Question about weight?

So my mom is 43 and she is a little depressed about her weight. She is 5-5 and weighs 170 lbs. She trys to eat healthy and exercises on the treadmill 30 mins. 5 times a week. Her main downfalls is she will eat a "mid night snack" with my dad and she drinks a lot of beer. I know I pretty much answered my own question, but does anyone know any exercises to burn fat all over, or any healthy food recipies, or any alocohol that tastes good, but isn't full of a ton of calories?? I wanted to get her to go to curves or do weight watchers, but I don't have the money since I am in collge, so if any one has nay sugestions it would be great! thanks!!

It would be best if she takes the advise of "Nothing to excess!"and applies it to her diet and exercise. Here is what I mean:
- instead of focusing on how much she weighs now, or how many pounds overweight she is, she need to focus on how well she is doing and how much better she feels each day she lives a healthy lifestyle.
- Don't tell her to totally give up on the alcohol and midnight snacks with your Dad... that is not just about food, it is about the company that she feels sharing food with your dad and the sociability she feels after drinking.
- Make sure you and your dad encourage her regularly. Take time to tell her how beautiful she is. Tell her how special she is to you. Make sure you guys let her know that you worry about her health because you don't want her to have heart disease, diabetes, or a stroke. (But don't scare her into dieting!)
- Don't expect your mom to give up food that your dad can eat... its just plain wrong to eat "forbidden food" around someone who cant have it
- Get rid of all the junk food and bad snacks in the house - instead get good, healthy snacks THAT TASTE GOOD and encourage your dad to eat those during the late-night snack sessions.
- Model good food choices and exercise options when you are around your parents - its a lot easier to follow a healthy diet when your whole family is eating healthy.
- Let your mom know that she can still have holidays or other days where she can "be bad" - for example let her know that at her Birthday, Christmas and Thanksgiving, she can eat what she wants in celebration - as long as she gets back on diet an continues her daily workout regiments (this gives her something to look forward to when she is giving up things she wants to have or wants to quit exercising).
- Remind her often that weight loss and healthy living take time. It takes time to adjust to a new regimen and it takes time for you to see an feel the difference - but it is worth it.
- Have her friends and other family members support her. Ask around in your family if there are any special recipes that she really likes that are healthy (or go online and find healthy alternatives to her fave foods so she doesn't have to "give up" or "do without" things she enjoys.

Tell her to keep up the good work with the exercising... and you should see if your city or church has a fitness center/recreation center. Churches, YWCA, and City Rec Centers have all kinds of exercise options that are affordable for your whole family. There are both Churches and a City Rec/Community Center near where I live that offers: yoga, Tai Chi, Aerobics, Water Aerobics, Jazzercise, Karate, Pilate's, weight classes, spin classes, and other group exercise activities. You might also want to try water exercise classes because they are easier on your joints and offer full-body workout, which is great when you are getting started. If you go to a Church, City or YWCA there will even be people who can help your mom figure out a workout just for her needs!

Good luck!
