Swimming and supplements?!

Question:

Swimming and supplements?

I have started swimming for cardiovasuclar exercise recently. But since I am on a vegetarian diet, a friend adviced me to take whey protein as a supplement. I have narrowed down on Optimum's 100% Gold Std.

I swim in the evenings at about 8.30pm for about an hour, the previous food intake being lunch at around 2.30pm. Can somebody advise me on how much and when (before/after/both) to take this supplement.

Answers:

Optimum whey is protein food source really. I'm surprised a vegatarian would take this since it has milk in it.

If you are about to workout, you need a pre workout meal which consist of a small amount of protein (half a scoop) or you can take amino acids (pill form) if you have a fear of solid food and swimming. Also, a form of sodium and dextrose (gatorade type drink). Your body usues sugar to fuel itself. You need to "prime" your body to use fat over sugar.
