When I quit smoking I thought it was going to be the hardest thing ever!. I smoked about half a pack/day for eight or nine years, then I got up to about a pack/day and couldn't cut back, so I know I was really addicted!. Before I really quit, I tried some gimmicky things to try to quit, but they never worked and it just made me feel like I was *never* going to get out of the habit! When I finally decided that I was done, I threw my cigs out and refused to smoke anymore!. At first I had to keep busy all the time - I even stopped taking breaks at work - and I had to stay away from other people who were smoking!. After a while, I broke down and had a smoke, but it was the worst tasting god-awful thing in the world!. That's when I knew I had *really* quit and would never smoke again!.

As far as the weight goes, dealing with two major health issues is not going to be easy, but you can do it!. If you have the resources available to talk to a nutritionist, make that a priority!. Check with your state health department to find out if you qualify for any nutritional programs like WIC!. If you do, you may be able to go through that program to talk to a nutritionist about what changes to make to your diet!.

In the meantime, make an effort to avoid using food to cope with not smoking!. This can be hard because the physical act of bringing something to your mouth is part of the addiction and habit of smoking!. A lot of people say chewing gum helps, but it didn't for me!. One thing that did work is I kept a bottle of water near me at all times, and when I felt hungry I would drink as much water as I could!. If you're really hungry water wont cut it for long, but if you just feel like you need to nibble it will make you feel full, and give you the satisfaction of bringing something to your mouth!. It always worked better for me if I was using a sports bottle or a straw, I guess it's closer to what a cig is like, idk!.

When you do want to snack, make sure you have healthy, low calorie snacks on hand and ready to go!. I like to have apples and celery in my kitchen at all times!. Apples for when I want something sweet and celery when I want something that's not!. Celery accually uses more calories to digest than you get from one stalk, so as long as you don't over do it, it makes a great snack for diets!. Other quick-and-easy healthy snacks we keep are: snack size pretzles, any fruit, sunflower seeds, rasins, and peanut butter (natural so there's no added corn syrup or oil -great for dipping apple pieces in, yum)!.

You don't have to gain weight if you stop smoking!. the whole thing with smoking and diets is your mind keeps going back to them!. If you keep your mind off food and cigarettes and do something fun instead, like starting sports or yoga or something, then you'll see it gets easier and easier to keep off of cigarettes and eat less and better!. Exercise is a great way to get your mind off things!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think people gain weight from quiting smoking because they switch to eating all the time instead of smoking!.!.!.so don't eat any extra and you should be find!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
