Is it better to work out on an empty stomach or have something before hand?

I like to work out in the morning, and read some of the Bill Phillips stuff. Now I realize some isn't necessarily true, but is it better to eat a little protein before a workout, or is better just to have an empty stomach.

And if you should eat, what would you recommend?


Answers:

it's really a matter of personal preference. different studies say different things. some say to eat some protein so it will be in your blood stream while your lifting. others say you should wait until after you lift to eat your protein. either way you should eat some quick digesting carbs after you lift so your body doesn't cannabilize your muscles for fuel, as your metabolism will be raised for 30-40 after you lift. You need to feed the muscle you have in order to build more! personally, I have to have something in my stomach, otherwise I think about food the entire time I'm lifting.
