Is there a difference between calories and kcal?!

Question: Is there a difference between calories and kcal!?
People talk about calories in food, but on the nutrition information labels, energy is always shown in kcal!. Is there a difference!? I always thought that 1 kcal would = 1000 calories, just as 1 km = 1000 metres, 1 kg = 1000 grams etc etc!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
In physics, a calorie is the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of one cubic centimetre of water by one degree celcius!. Nutritionally, this is a tiny amount!. The "calorie" in food is actually a kilocalorie - i!.e!. 1000 calories!. Through common usage, it has been shortened to a calorie!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Nothing!.

Calories = kcal!.

Kcal is simply the shorter version, i dunno why they put a "k" on it, but it is exactly the same unit!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Kcal is Calorie
A food energy is called a calorie, Kilocalorie is also used so on food the symbol is kcalWww@Answer-Health@Com

both are units for measuring energy!.

1 kcal is equivallent to 1000 calories!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Strictly speaking a kCal is 1000 calories!. When people are talking about calories in food they really mean kCal, but it's easier to forget about the 1000 part and refer to them as calories!.

When people say they're on a 1500 calorie a day diet it's REALLY 1,500,000 calories!. This is because a calorie is a very SMALL amount of energy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
