Does whey protein help you lose weight??

I'm a 16 yr old female, 5'1" and 135lbs. I'm really tryin to lose about 20-30 lbs by september. But I was wondering if drinking a whey protein shake would help me lose more weight? How much more would it help me lose as opposed to not drinking any?

Well im a 16 year old guy who is into weightlifting and I was wondering the effects of whey protein so I did some research. Protein, as you probably know, is used for the rebuilding of muscles. Thus, if you drink whey protein it helps you regenerate your muscles faster. In other words, whenever you tear muscle ligaments, i.e. such as lifting weights/running excessively, etc. you're destroying muscle and the whey protein helps it regenerate faster. I read in Men's Health magazine that studies have shown that people who used whey protein double their muscle mass compared to those who do not drink it after workouts. Whey, however, will not do anything if you do not work out. Drinking it will just bring in alot of protein/carbohydrates that you don't need if you do not work out. Also, if you decide to drink whey, remember to drink alot of water because you're making your kidneys do more work. In the end, I guess it's up to you, I don't use whey because I don't like artificial sources of protein, I just get through meats/vegetables. Hope this helped!
