It is bad to be a habitual smoker. But nicotine, much like caffeine, is a stimulant that can increase heart rate and metabolism. About once a week I have a cigar (socially) and it is an excellent appetite suppressant/meal replacement.

I've lost 70 lbs. since February by calorie counting and ironically that coincided with me starting smoking. If your on a diet, you would be wise to supplement your diet with exercise and increase your caloric deficit.

If you are exercising you shouldn't be smoking, as your body metabolizes fat it expels fat by exhaling CO2. If smoking is holding your breathing back at all, it will only making things more difficult.
