Will loosing weight inter fear with development????

I'm 15 1/2 years old and I weigh 138 lbs. I really would like to take off about 5-10 lbs. ( as I can't fit into almost any pants or shorts because of my gigantic hips : P) By (other than exerciseing) reduceing my portions and cutting out ALL junk and "empty calorie" foods. But my parents seem to think that if I loose weight it might intefear with my growth and development. Is this true???

It's hard to tell without knowing your height and how much muscle to fat ratio you have. But eating smaller portions and substituting healthy food for other junk food while exercising regularly is not a bad thing, you don't necessarily have to cut out all junk food either just eat smaller portions of that as well or decide that you can have a treat on a specific day of the week, having something to look forward to can make it easier to stick to eating healthy. As long as you're not starving yourself you should be fine. A good way to look at it is calories in vs. calories out, girls should have around 1700-1800 calories a day so keep track of what you eat and if you supplement it with exercise you will start to lose weight a healthy amount is 1-2lbs per week, since you already don't weigh that much it might be a little slower.
