Building Endurance..?!

Building Endurance..?
I lift weights and all of that, but I never run or along those lines. I can run a mile in a little less than 7 minutes, but my goal is 5 miles; 8 minutes a mile.
Thats not a totally random goal, it has a purpose for something. How can I build my endurance over time? (Not like in a huge rush or anything)
