Question: I run 2 1/2 miles a day and im a vegetarian but im gaining wieght! why!?!!?
Okay!.!. im 14 about 5"7 and a half ive been running about 3 miles a day since december and ive been a vegetarian for about a year!. The odd thing is im gaining weight and its really making me mad!. It might be because im eating alot of carbs or something!. Can anyone tell me why i have been gaining weight and if their are any solutions!. Thank you :]Www@Answer-Health@Com

well eating carbs in moderation is ok, don't binge on them though!. And the weight you are gaining might be muscle mass because muscle weighs more then fat!. If you want to lose more weight I would suggest eating smaller portions of everything you eat, you may feel hungrier, bit over a period of time your stomach will actually shrink!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Are you a veggie who eats a balanced diet, or are you a veggie who eats chocolate, cheese sandwiches, and fries all your food!?
Veggie diets aren't necessarily lower calorie than meat diets!. BUT most vegetarians are also more health conscious, so their diet do tend to be healthier!.

You could also be gaining weight because you are growing!.!.!. 14 year olds do grow a lot!

Carbs themselves aren't necessarily a baddy!. The Atkins diet, where people try to avoid all carbs is unhealthy in itself, because mostly what's left is meat and fat, so your arteries fur up!.
(Anyway, rumour has it, Atkins himself died fat!.!.!.)

If you are eating healthily, not taking on too many excess calories, and your body mass index is increasing, then maybe you should ask your Dr to check a couple of blood tests (thyroid probably being the main one) just in case!.

Last thing, -being a Dr myself, I'm always paranoid, -there's no chance of you being pregnant as a cause of weight gain, is there!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your body isn't getting what it needs as far as nutrients!. Being a vegetarian isn't healthy!. Your body isn't what it needs so its storing everything that it can because it thinks it's starving!.

To stop gaining weight, you're going to have to change your eating habits!. Try eating something with a little bit of fat or something with protein!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

possibly muscle gain!. as said above, muscle weighs way more than fat!. anyways, stop weighing yourself!. you're fourteen, running 2 1/2 miles a day so i'm reasonably sure you are very in shape and have nothing to worry about!. definitely eat carbs, but try to eat some protein!. boca burgers or something!. protein is waaay better for you than a ton of carbs, i don't know how that will effect your weight but you will prolly feel better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
