You want to do both!. The long steady cardio will burn fat, and the weights will improve your musculature, improving your strength, flexibility, and metabolism!. You say you do the treadmill 5x a week!. That's great, for now, and if you keep it up and eat well, you will probably see some progress soon!.

However, as you start improving, maybe every other day, you can try a weight training routine!. For total newbies, the safest thing to do is to probably invest in a personal trainer for a few sessions to get you started!. After that, if he is worth the price, keep going!. If not, you have the seeds to start planning your own workouts!. If you don't have time to have a day where you have to lift and do cardio, maybe just cut out the cardio for that day!. Also, intervals are all the rage right now for weight loss and might even knock slow steady cardio off its throne!. I'd suggest googling it!. I don't know about its weight loss potential, but personal experience shows that it can totally crush even the fittest athletes!.

There are other things you can do!. First, diet is important!. Eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies, lean proteins from chicken, eggs, or fish, lowfat or nonfat dairy, and carbs from whole grains!. Also, you might get bored with the treadmill soon and start dreading your workouts!. Mix it up by doing some slow time on a bike or walking outdoors!. It's spring! Swimming is also great because it targets your whole body instead of just your legs!. Besides, the treadmill often overestimates your calories burned and distance achieved!.

Finally, be patient!. 45 lbs can take anywhere from about 6 months to a year, depending on whether you are very dedicated or EXTREMELY dedicated!. I've found that you have to want it really badly before you see results!. Don't hate yourself if you don't see results right away!. You did not move up to 185 overnight and it is unfair to yourself to expect drastic weight loss!.`Www@Answer-Health@Com

Do weights first, and then cardio for a few reasons:

(1) You want to lift weights when fresh so that way you can do your true maximum lifts!. And you don't want to deplete your muscles of glycogen before you lift weights!.

(2) Doing cardio after lifting weights is a good way to help prevent becoming really sore!. Much of the soreness from lifting weights is from lactic acid build up- by moving your muscles quickly after lifting weights, you help disperse the lactic acid which would otherwise just be "sitting" on your muscles!.

And I would probably cut back a bit on the cardio!.!.!. 30-40 minutes of more intense cardio will burn just as much as fat as a less intense 60 minute workout!. Maybe change up, 30-40 intense a few days a week, and a few 60 minute less intense a week!. Try to progressively make your treadmill workouts more intense!. Better to increase incline than speed!. Incline = maximum calorie burn!. I change the incline and speed every five minutes, but I average over 10 incline/4!.2 mph in the average cardio session!. I started a few months ago at 0 incline at about the same speed you are at!. Just increase it a little bit each day and you'll be doing a really intense 700-800 workout in a couple of months!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Unfortunately, it's a much-debated topic!. It may be some time before anybody can actually agree on it!.

My opinion!? Do both from the start!. The current line of thought is that the more muscle a body has, the more calories it will burn at rest!.

This is pretty basic, but you might try something like this to start!.

Mon, Wed, Fri - 30 min treadmill, 30 min weights

mon - Chest - triceps - abs
wed - back - biceps - forearms
fri - shoulders - legs

Tue, Thr - 60 on treadmill, bike, eliptical, swimming, or whatever!.

All 5 days - 10 min stretch after workout!.

Good point Colorado!. I thought the question meant whether to do cardio for a certain period of time before starting a weight routine!. If it was the other, my apologies!. Colorado hit it on the head!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day!. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%!. To have more satisfaction out of ur food, Chew each morsel at least 32 times!. This will also activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness!. Obey these signals!.

Nothing other than water in between!.

Take light exercises and brisk walks for 30 min!.regularly preferably twice a day!.

U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time and hassle free!.

Be patient and not in a hurry!.

U cannot choose spots for reduction!.

This schedule can be adopted on permanent basis to lead a healthy life and maintain weight!.

None of the heavy exercises r good for obese as they over strain the already strained organs!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should do weights after you lost the fat so you can replace the flabby parts of your body with muscle!. So I say Cardio then Weights!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
