Im a dieting n00b. help!?

okay guys so recently ive really really wanted to adopt a healthier lifestyle...i found out im about 30 pounds overweight and even though im lucky enough to carry it very proportionally, i still want to lose it. i know its a long process, i know i wont see results in a week but i want to know any dieting tips/tricks aside from regular exercise and eating right.

my main problem is that i eat at night, like really really late at night. are there any foods that are okay to eat at night? i dont want to have to have to stuff myself at dinner just so that i wont eat later. also any tips for losing water weight? anything helps! thanks!

yeah, salads, but... With nothen but veggies an you can add grilled or baked chicken breast, Chicken breast is so great for your body cause its hardly no fat an all protien.. So when you eat this an ur body absorbs it, it helps build ur muscles even if ur not exerciseing an ur body burns calories... But NO dressing! I went on a diet where I ate chicken breast salads fir a month an drink nothen but flavored water or crystal light an I lost 20lbs in month, an I didnt starve myself or anything cause I ate em like 6-8 times a day....
