Is my treadmill calorie counter correct? Read on!?!


Question: Is my treadmill calorie counter correct!? Read on!!?
I am a 16yr old girl and I do a combination of running/walking for 20minutes every morning after breakfast on my treadmill!. In that 20min, I do about 1 mile and 1!.5 laps (5!.5laps)!. It says I only burn 220 calories in this time!.!.!.!.!.is that correct!? Our treadmill is kinda old we bought it in 1999!.!.!.!.!.so isn't my metabolism faster than that at my age!? Or is this right!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

no it's not accurate!.

no calorie counter can be accurate if the body composition (body fat %) is not taken into account!. the amount of muscle mass that a person has determines how many calories are expended during energy!. the more muscle mass the more energy expended!. say for example you have 2 people both weight 150 lbs but one has 15% body fat and the other 30%!.

person A:
150 x !.15 = 22!.5 lbs of fat
150 - 22!.5 = 127!.5 lbs of muscle mass

person B:
150 x !.30 = 45 lbs of fat
150 - 45 = 105 lbs of muscle mass

person A will burn more calories per unit of exercise than person B just because they have significantly more muscle mass!. this is why everyone burns a different amount of calories during any form of exercise!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it takes a lot to burn calories, if you weigh 150 pounds and run 6 miles an hour (10 min mile) for a full hour, you only burn 684 calories

I understand that it varies from person to person, but not knowing her body comp I gave those numbers as a general rule of thumb!. the calorie counter won't be 100% but its more or less accurate statistically speakingWww@Answer-Health@Com

Treadmills can only give an estimate of actual calories burned!. It calculates it based on time and speed walked!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
