What does junk food do to us??!

Question:

What does junk food do to us??

you know like they say that it does matter what you eat, like junk food from healthy food, all that matters is the calories in and out so why do we stay away from junk?

Answers:

Well, from a weight loss standpoint, calories in and out are the most important thing.

However, from a health standpoint, what you eat has a tremendous impact. Junk food does not have the valuable nutrients that healthy, fresh, whole foods have. Junk food is overloaded with sugar, salt and fat, and doesn't give you a good balance of proteins and carbs, along with vitamins and minerals.

Also, back to weight loss, junk food are "empty" calories -- in the sense that you eat McDonalds food, for example, and you get a rush, basically, from the wave of salt and sugar and fat that comes in. In a short while, however, you get a little tired and you're hungry again because the simple sugars are gone, and the salt is processed. You feel like eating more, and then the food slows you down so you don't burn as many calories.

Also, fast food tends to be high in calories for the same mass of food. I.e. you can stuff yourself with piles of vegetables and still not get as many calories as in that Big Mac meal.

Also, when you have a calorie goal of 2,000 per day, for example, and then you eat 1,100 of them for lunch, that doesn't leave much for breakfast, dinner and snacks. They encourage you to eat more calories than you need.
