It is a misnomer that you burn fat while exercising!.!.!. Meaning, it is a process that takes a fair amount of time to complete!.!.!.

What does happen, however, is that by exercising you use up the bodies blood glucose levels, and it starts a process called gluconeogenesis!. So you know, this is just a fancy word for saying that the body starts to convert stored up energy to meet its requirements!.!.!.

In short, most of the "fat burning" you talk about is only a process that occurs over time because you are burning more calories than your body is taking in, and not specifically during exercise!.!.!.

As someone who needed to lose a few inches here and there I found it was all about the correct speed!. For example if you are cycling as your exercise!., Cycling like mad and going at the speed of light all over the place Will make you sweat and burn up excess water!. You'll end up looking slimmer, but the fat will remain!. But slow things down a bit and get a steady rhythm going so you can cycle for say forty minutes and stop, and still be able to talk without gasping and wheezing for breath, and you are into the area of burning fat!. It's a steady long process, get your face glowing, and your breathing heavier, and feel your heart beating, but not to the extent that you exhaust yourself and it works, and in my case it was permanent!. You might be happy to learn that fat is not burned 'as a last resort'!.

In fact, your body uses a greater percentage of fat as a substrate at lower intensities-- as you are sitting for example!.

Normally, your body favours fat and carbohydrates as energy to fuel your physical activities!. Protein can also be used as fuel, however the body tends to use protein for the synthesis of body tissues and biological functioning!.

As your physical activity intensity increases, your body begins to utilize carbohydrates to a greater extent than fat!.

This fact has to a large degree promoted the infamous 'fat burning myth', i!.e!., that it's therefore more advantageous to work at lower intensities since you will tend to burn a greater percentage of fat!.

While this is true, the important point to keep in mind is that it's the *total* amount of calories burned that counts more than whether those calories come from fats or cabohydrates!.

The more calories you burn, the more weight you lose!.

It requires about 3500 calories to burn the equivalent of one pound of fat!. Therefore, exercises that require greater force production performed at greater intensities will generally always result in greater energy expenditure, i!.e!., more calories burned and therefore greater fat loss!.

you have to eat better AND exercise!. and you have to stay focused, and this really the hardest part!. make sure you don't cheat on you eating and make sure exercise at least three times a week!. the idea is to burn more calories than you take in!.
losing weight is actually pretty easy once you get into the swing of it and accept the life style changes you have made!.
trust me, i once wore a size 40 waist and now wear a 32 : )
