The others are right - you have to lose fat generally and hope a fair bit comes off your waist!. I had a huge spare tire and now my abs are pretty much flat - most of that came from jogging / walking!. I also do crunches and other resistance stuff a few times a week!. Pilates sounds girly but wow it's amazing for your core muscles - waist and stomach included!. You can get a DVD!. The toning exercises will help to pull you in a bit and give you better definition - but they won't get rid of the fat over the muscles!. You have to do that with cardio exercise and watching your diet!. When we want to get rid of body fat, there is no way to specifically burn fat from one part of the body!. Doing situps won't burn the fat that is covering your abs and doing tricep extensions won't get rid of the fat that is covering your triceps!. The only thing you can do is lose weight all around and eventually the problem area will also improve!. Firstly- you have to look at your diet!. This is extremely important!. You need to eat less foods that bloat (like salt) and more fiber!. You need to get lots of veggies!. It may even be beneficial to see a nutritionist!.
Secondly- exercise!. Crunches will help tone your ab muscles, and muscle does help burn fat, but if you have a healthy spare tyre going you won't be able to see the muscles!. You also need to do a cardio workout, like cycling, spinning, swimming or running!. Combine this with toning exercises, like crunches!. I also found (and I know this sounds a bit ridiculous) that hula hooping is great for the waist!. Another thing is to make sure you do exercises that target all the abdominals AND your back muscles!. A good, strong back is key!.

The part about fat burning exercise is correct!. You need to exercise and burn more calories than you intake or eat!. It is that simple and that differcult!., so cut the sugar for your tea in half, walk a little more and drink more water to avoid the craving for salt and beers!. wrong icemane! People think that crunches situps will make you lose belly fat!. While they will give your abs more definition what you need to do are fat burning activities!. Take a spin class, or try middle distance running!. Drink water and stay away from junk food!Www@Answer-Health@Com
